Feeds (Version 0.2)

Update 04/19/2008: Starting from tonight, Feeds should be available through the ModMyiFone.com repository.

A new version of Feeds is available through my repository the ModMyiFone.com repository.

Changelist

- Journaling implemented — blog entries that you read offline now will correctly be marked as read on the server side during the next synchronization
- Smarter syncing: when the number of unread items reported by the Google Reader API corresponds to the one on the iPhone and there are no new entries, nothing will be downloaded. This enormously reduces the time spent on synchronizing.
- New application style with a fancy button bar
- A lot of small bug fixes and some memory management cleanup

Cool app. So far the best rss reader.
    few things
Back button takes a couple of taps to go back.
story titles do not fit on screen. Maybe wrap them? provide a wide screen mode? and make font smaller?
    option to cache images
Site Icons for feeds (instead of default rss icon)

Great app, i use g reader all the time, this is great.

couple additions to make it perfect:

(as peteo mentioned the back button is kinda iffy)
    1. Next Button
    2. Refresh only one feed
    a. ability to disable some feeds?
    3. Mark all as read button
    4. Refresh button on selected story (sometimes images don’t download correctly)

    Keep up the good work!

This is a great idea and a great looking app. I just started using it but I have noticed the following things:

    1) The app crashed when I first synced - could be because of my 150 subscriptions but I’m not sure. The second time it sync’d the rest that were left and didn’t crash.
    2) The syncronizing HUD is really nice in terms of letting you know what its doing - I like that.
    3) In the post listing, why does it list the old/read feeds? Maybe include the ability to turn this off? Its a great little feature if people want it, but some, like me, don’t.
    4) In the post listing, the titles of the posts bleed off of the right side of the phone - can you make it so it has … at the end, always?
    5) While viewing a post, the screen seems to be wider than necessary i.e. I can scroll to the right almost twice as wide as the post itself.

If I notice anything else I’ll be sure and let you know. I love the idea for this app and hope you keep up the good work. That said, I’d recommend the following features:

    1) Ability to set autorefresh time
    2) Bigger icons in the bottom toolbar (like with installer, mobilescrobbler, etc)
    3) View by post alternative to by feed
    4) Ability to subscribe to RSS feed from MobileSafari RSS link? Would this even be possible?

I’m sure this is all on your list but I’m jus

Additional request to what Eugene wrote:
    1. Use sliding instead of fading for the window change (albeit give user a choice)
    2. Use normal (not bold) or smaller font on feed/posts list (and also during synchronizing)
    3. Number of unreaded posts is sometimes not show properly, feeds with number higher than 100 are show as “1″
    4. Add a link “More” to read full article in Safari
    5. Add option to hide read posts
    6. Add button to make post as unread

If You do that (plus what Eugene wrote) it will rock !!

One more thing - if reading posts is done offline, give a user an option to turn off picture showing, because it invokes connecting to internet all the time.

    Installed feeds and configured it.

It shows 1399 items, then crashes.
I’d be happy to help debug.

Beautiful app… sure there are bugs, but Engadget feeds have NEVER functioned as flawless as with this reader!

Keep the good work up! The Alpha is absolutely divine!

Oh, yeah… any one have any idea why it makes my Facebook notifications RSS go from “http://www.face…” to “feed/http://www.face…” and then not sync it?

Awesome app, i use it all the time. Whenever i’m on my springboard to open a new app, say Safari for example, Feeds says it has 200 unread articles. I open it, that’s not the case, close it again and it’s still saying i’ve got 230 unread posts.

Oh, I think adding a ‘next’ button and the option to open the entire article in Safari would be fantastic. Keep up the good work.

    Check this bug:
Once one feed source is removed from google reader and sincronized it still is on the feed list

Thanks a lot for all your feedback, it’s great to see that people are actually using Feeds :). As I received a lot of feedback over the last days not only on this blog, but also by email and on other websites, it would be fantastic if you could post your bug findings and feature requests on http://code.google.com/p/iphone-feeds/.

Feeds seems to be the best rss reader, but it should have some basic features:
    1. Header(headline) of news, should use smaller font (not it takes too many place on first screen (when headline has 4-5 words)
    2. App should have “previous” and “next” buttons in news reading mode, for fast news reading.
    3. Maybe you should try to make “plain” rss mode, when news go straight after another (so you scroll, and see other news without moving back and forward.
    4. images in rss, should be enabled in setting screen. (and when its off, image should not take alot place (as image exists) and it should be cut off)
    5. maybe you should think about gestures for controlling Next-Previous news feature.

Thank you for you app and time spend on this work, and sorry for my poor english.

First of all, what a great app!! It is amazing!

I got 1 feedbackitem for you. Is it possible that under settings, when you change your credentials you will get the same results from you previous entry reader username?

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, but he keeps remembering my data. Is there an option to restore everything?

Hope you update it very soon. It rocks!!
