Feeds (Version 0.3.6)

Due to version 0.3 being delayed by a bug and my misbehaving iPod Touch (magically setting back the date and therefore not accepting newer certificates anymore), Feeds 0.3.6 was released instead. It added three often requested features:

I tried 0.3.6, but sync doesn’t work. When I pressed sync button and splash screen lasts within 1 second, and nothing changes. I also tried to uninstall the previous version in case for compatibility issue, however it does not improve anything. I dig around, and found many people came into the same issue. Please investigate about this.

Please try out this version and let me know whether it fixed the problem:

If not, please post the output you receive when you start Feeds from the console and press the sync button.

after a reinstall everything works fine. I had the same problem but now it synchronizes fine

Btw is it me or does the syncing last for ages…my feed for 1 account(with 100+ feeds) took in 0.2 like 1 minute (tops!) and now its syncing like 10 minutes….

    anyone have the same problems?

btw 0.3.7 gets installed…but doesnt work here when I try to open.

My bad for a lot of the comments ;-)

One last time, if I close the app and reopen, al my feeds are gone and I have to resync…

One feature request, a read all option for al the feeds, not only in a feed itself. Cause now I have 2500+ unread items and I dont want to click through every feed to tap read all all the time…

  7. Boris Bluntschli on May 10th, 2008 12:55

@Mike: Feeds is now syncing ALL feeds the first time it does it, not only the ones with unread items (there probably will be an option to turn this on / off in the future). Subsequent updates should be very quick though.

I tested Feeds on an account with many feeds, so that shouldn’t be the problem. About the vanishing feeds, did you restart the app after entering your credentials and before syncing?

Pls don’t restrict the horizon scroll function. I was able to scroll horizontally when using version 0.2.0, so that when a picture’s width exceed that screen I can easily scroll around to view full pictures. But when upgrade to 0.3.6 I found that I no longer able to scroll horizontally.
Sorry for my poor English. Thanks for bringing us this great application!

This problem only occurs with images that exceed the screen by less than ~200px. Just tap the screen twice to zoom out and enable scrolling.

This is great! There is only one thing keeping me from using this as my primary feed reader, the inability to star/pin items. I sometimes dont want to read an article on my ipod, but still want to be able to sift through feeds and decide what I do want to read. Thanks!

I tried 0.3.7 without any success, the stdout goes like below
    2008-05-10 22:23:07.345 Feeds[1652:5417] succeeded = 0
Please provide further investigation suggestion I’d like to help to figure it out

I found when I run in the console as ‘root’ it work and the the output is:
    2008-05-10 21:22:50.485 Feeds[349:5307] succeeded = 1
    2008-05-10 21:22:50.496 Feeds[349:5307] loadSubscriptionsFromWeb
    2008-05-10 21:22:50.499 Feeds[349:5307] NSXMLDocumentClass = NSXMLDocument

But when I run as ‘mobile’. The syncing doesn’t work the console output is:
    2008-05-10 21:22:01.111 Feeds[341:5407] succeeded = 0
    2008-05-10 21:22:07.249 Feeds[341:4a23] succeeded = 0
    2008-05-10 21:22:11.452 Feeds[341:621b] succeeded = 0

I tried v0.3.6 and it really works smoother than v2.x

The “back” button doesn’t work from time to time

**And the most important “problem” for me is the inability to sync more than the last 20 items on any feed. I’m used to have more than 100 unread items on some feeds, even having 100 items available on each feed would be great!

  15. Leandro on May 11th, 2008 11:48

For me, v0.3.7 it’s still not working =/

  16. Steven on May 11th, 2008 16:28

For me, the version 0.2 works well on my iphone, when I upgrade to 0.3.6 and 0.3.7, not working anymore when I click the sync bottom… ( don’t show any feeds), after reinstall 0.2, the feeds work again. thanks for your work.

  17. JIM on May 11th, 2008 22:43

Thanks! Feeds is my favorite app for iphone)
    I have some problems with ver. 3.6 - 3.7.
After full delete and install all works fine!

Only 2 function i need in next versions:
    - mark as unread\read
    - add\remove star

hi, excelent and clear app. Your app is fantastic, but I have a suggestion to next version: make posible to use the accelerometer (is it written right??) in order to read the feeds in a horizontal way.

Hope you implement it for the next version

    Great job!

  19. Vasco on May 12th, 2008 21:47

0.3.6 not working for me. Sync does nothing. 0.3.7 doesn’t work either. Halt at logo splash screen and exits.

    Oldest 0.2 works fine.

  20. filipp.dunsky on May 13th, 2008 2:00

I`ve used theese commands to fix new version:

    chown root:wheel /var/Applications/Feeds.app/Feeds
    chmod 0777 /var/Applications/Feeds.app/Feeds
    chown root:wheel /var/mobile/Library/Feeds
    chown 0777 /var/mobile/Library/Feeds

Works for me now. But there is strange bug - some feeds become -2 new unread items, syncing one more time twices this number so now it is minus four unread items and they are not new, but old items become unread. Read all button does not fix this bug.

Boris, thank you so much on the update! It’s a brilliant app :] I wonder if there are any Feed reader implementation like this (Through Google Reader’s API, w/ sync functions)?

I would love to have my sidebar\dashboard RSS to be ’synched’ up with Google Reader Account so I know which articles have been read, and which ones are unread.

    Thanks again. Cheers!

I mean implementation on other OS, especially OSX and Windows. Thx!
