Feeds (Version 0.3.8)

Some people seemed to have issues with Feeds 0.3.6, causing the application not to synchronize at all anymore. I was able to trace back these problems to the altered login function and fixed it in the new release 0.3.8. It should be available on your Installer.app soon. If Feeds still doesn’t work for you, please let me know.

For those who can’t wait and don’t fear scp, I uploaded the archive to my server.

Update 05/15/2008: If it’s not working for you, please let me know:

Update 05/16/2008: Feed 0.4.0 is out now.

  3. Kang on May 14th, 2008 20:18

I am sure the username and password are correct
but the application doesn`t sync at all

  4. Boris Bluntschli on May 14th, 2008 20:22

So you copied 0.3.8 to the iPhone manually? Could you give me the console output after pressing the “Sync” button?

  5. Henry on May 15th, 2008 1:40

    It doesn’t work…

  6. takayama on May 15th, 2008 1:50

  10. Thomas Wan on May 15th, 2008 4:38

Nice app! Thanks for the app and I really enjoy using it. Feeds 0.3.8 version works well for me! Besides that I hope I can change the font size in the article view (not title preview)…. It’s kind of difficult to read the articles in bus……

  11. Mike van Hoenselaar on May 15th, 2008 8:44

Still works like a charm here. Thanks.

My wishlist is in the comments and on google project page ;-)

    keep up the good work.

  12. Peter Fang on May 15th, 2008 10:32

Thanks for the update but it still doesn’t sync here. Version 0.2 worked fine but since 0.3.6 when I clicked the Sync button, it will go back to the empty feeds screen after a few seconds. Any idea what went wrong?

  13. Victor on May 15th, 2008 11:14

    Do not work.

  14. ECHOES on May 15th, 2008 12:17

If it’s not working for you, please let me know:
    * What language your iPhone is set to
    * Whether it works when you set your iPhone to English

  17. icycool on May 15th, 2008 14:37

Sync started working with 0.3.8 Thanks. It’s the offline reader I wanted… almost. Here’s the feature requests
    1. Have a swipe at the feeds summary which marks the article as read. this is for the articles I dont want to open and read, after I see the summary.
    2. Cache the images also, since my Edge costs me and I’d rather do the wi-fi load the images too.

  18. toffifee on May 15th, 2008 14:55

At the first, it’s syncing, but after ca. 20 sec it crashs to the Home Screen.
Language is set to German and in English it’s still not working.

  19. nathon on May 15th, 2008 15:01

0.38 rocks on my iPhone, thanks for the effort!
It still doesn’t fit into some heavy rss user who have 500+ rss feeds in g/reader like me:), however i can create another lite account to hold what’s most valuable contents in the way to office.
I’d appreciate very much if the next release could remove the constrain of 20 entries, my 8GB iPhone has quite some space left to hold your growing sqlite db file, please keep on moving man!

  20. flashboy on May 15th, 2008 16:47

When I changed into English,it worked. But in Chinese, it couldn’t sync!

  21. lars on May 15th, 2008 17:14

    iPod Touch German

  22. Steven on May 15th, 2008 17:15

Thanks for your work. but 0.38 still not working on my iphone when I sent language to Chinese, after set to english, it works fine. Hope you can solve this problem soon. Thanks again

  23. Henry on May 15th, 2008 17:27

Just set the language to En, it will be sync for you. But it’s not Stability for me.

  24. Boris Bluntschli on May 15th, 2008 18:32

@lars: How can you not enter the username / password?

I’m working on the problem some of you are having with languages other than English right now.

  25. zek0 on May 15th, 2008 19:17

If im switch iphone to English all works, but if im switch to Russia Feeds not sync :(

  26. mantou on May 15th, 2008 20:15

    Do not work.
    language:chinese

    Thanks!

  27. griffinaz on May 15th, 2008 21:08

My phone is set to English, I am running 0.3.8 and when I select Sync it will connect, display a message that it is syncing, then after a few minutes will close the program and return the desktop. I noticed that I have several groups that are large and they seem to be having the problems. When syncing does finish without closing the program down, it has retrieved only a few of the groups I am subscribed to. The syncing doesn’t appear to be working fully.

  28. argg on May 15th, 2008 22:10

    fw: 1.1.4 (english)
    feeds 0.3.8 (source: modmyifone)

I click synchronize the progress indicator pops up and then disappears. no errors and no feeds. I’d post the output if I knew how to run it via console.

  29. Jaka on May 16th, 2008 1:11

Please upload the source to the Google Code SVN repo =)

  30. siikii on May 16th, 2008 3:59

Version 0.4 finally works for me. Thanks for this great app!

  31. Thomas Wan on May 16th, 2008 4:59

Feeds 0.4 works like a charm! Syncing is smooth and fast. The summary page is noticbebly faster….I think the fonts look ok in English but a little bit small in Chinese. Please add the option to change the font in article view.

  32. Jaka on May 16th, 2008 6:58

On all the versions I’ve tried so far (3.6->4.0), on iPhone 1.1.4 w/ English language, I don’t see all the folders that I have and even in those that I do see, I don’t see all the feeds in them (”Only unred items” is Off).

All feeds DO show up in “All feeds”, though.

  33. zek0 on May 16th, 2008 7:24

And were i may download version 4.0?

  34. Steven on May 16th, 2008 9:08

Where can I find the version 0.4? Thanks.

  35. Jaka on May 16th, 2008 11:51

    On installer.app

  36. unknown_soldier on May 16th, 2008 12:07

I left a message in your thread on mmi about 0.36 not working. Just installed 0.40. It works nicely. Thank you

  37. James on May 16th, 2008 16:54

Same here, 0.38 didn’t work, but 4.0 is working. I’ve renamed my subscriptions in the Google Reader. Is there anyway for Feeds to read my renamed subscriptions instead?

    Thx!

  38. zek0 on May 16th, 2008 17:41

May be anybody say name of repo? Im check 3-times repo today and not see informaiton about 4.0 feeds.

    thanks

  39. zek0 on May 16th, 2008 18:38

Update avaliable now. Ok great this works! .4 is worked with sync.

  40. argg on May 16th, 2008 21:00

Still not working for me in fw 1.1.4 can any one tell me how to run this via console so I can post the output and possibly the error thats occurring?

  41. remo on May 16th, 2008 23:03

version 0.4.0 works fine if I set the language to English…it does not work if I have the language set to Italian.
    Thanks

  42. Motionxxusxx on May 17th, 2008 0:45

.38 worked great but .4 has issues with the feeds. I’m now getting feeds that if I select read all it says I still have unread items. Also when ever I sync and than go to read the messages, the unread messages show up in the middle of the list instead of on the top. Hope you can fix these issues. Thanks

  43. xmen on May 18th, 2008 14:58

I installed 0.4 and it works well for several days. Today, it does not sync any more. The screen stay at Synchronizing… forever.
Btw, thanks so much for a very usefull app.

  44. Chris on May 18th, 2008 16:59

    Language is English
    Version 0.4

I will no longer sync, it does not grab the new posts for each feed.

It won’t reconize if change the name of the feed at Reader.

And has quite a few problems regarding the categorizing with the tags. When I remove tags the do not always delete within Feeds.

Overall I think it is just a sync problem.

I really hope it gets fixed. Out of all the rss apps I have tried, this is the one I want to keep.

    Nicely done.

  45. Chris on May 18th, 2008 16:59

    Oh, and firmware 1.1.3

  46. jason lazzara on May 19th, 2008 0:54

    Hello Boris,

Thanks for a great application. I was thinking that it might be a cool feature to be able to schedule syncs at a specific time. Currently using edge to sync several feeds can take a very long time. I am often near wifi at specific time of the day. Rather than have to remember to sync during those times I would like to be able to set feeds to auto sync at a specified time. D you think this is something you can do?

  47. Andy on May 19th, 2008 11:27

    Hi Boris;
i am using feeds 0.40 on ipodtouch 32 gb; vers 1.14 in german.
    Severall problems:
when i sync (with wifi) , the feeds dont update.
The feeds which i updated the last time still show up , even so i clicked on read all.
in - All Feeds it says for a spezific feed still 40 news, when i click on that feed no feeds are inside.
I nice feature would be: Read All Feeds on the start page, so i dont have to click in my more than 40 feeds.
btw, i use german as i wrote before; but same problem ocures when i switch to english.
    Greetings Andy

  48. Andy on May 19th, 2008 11:36

    Update:
    i just 11.34; synced again.
It worked and i got new feeds; but still when i click on - read all in a feed; it “shades” all feeds; and when i go back to All feeds not all feeds are away an it still says f.e. 45 feeds are new, even when their are no new feeds.
    Greetings Andy

    you suck at photoshop!

  50. Daniele on May 19th, 2008 16:56

the 0.4 have a issues with the refresh.
I have tried to refresh many times, but the items don’t update.

A solution? A cache problem? Is possible to clear the cache?

Many thx btw for this great app!

    Daniele

  51. Boris Bluntschli on May 19th, 2008 17:00

Currently you have to delete the cache manually:

    rm -rf /var/mobile/Library/Feeds/

Btw, for me it _is_ syncing (both ways), but 0.4.0 doesn’t display the entries in their correct chronological order, so did you check whether there are some new entries further down the list?

  52. Daniele on May 19th, 2008 17:02

iphone language is set to Italian

  53. Daniele on May 19th, 2008 17:07

    ok i check it now…

Sorry! the feeds are updated but not in order, a simple chronological order problem!

  54. Boris Bluntschli on May 19th, 2008 17:08

No problem. This will be fixed in the next version, which will also include an Italian translation by Fabio Mosetti :)

  55. Daniele on May 19th, 2008 17:24

Boris, this is my wishlist :D :

1)A switch for set the subtitles for all feed on or Off

2)Slide to left or right for the next previous feed

3)A different style for the readed feed (small character or not in bold or a different cell color)

    4) Switch from n users? I have 2 account with different feeds source.

    5) Synched Sound :D

    6) A button to clear cache?

    7) Rotable screens (landscape and Portrait)

    Bye!

    Daniele

    Hello Boris,

Many thanks for «Feeds.» It really ties the room together. However, Chinaman peed on my rug. Please help with BIGG.

    Cheers,

  57. Col on May 20th, 2008 18:41

Cool app! I’d like to see the published time and date when reading an individual article.

  58. Lars on May 21st, 2008 11:45

Boris, in .38 there had been some problems on selecting the input box for username and password. seems to be ok now.
But in .4 there are strange “synchronizing (null)” messages.

  59. argg on May 22nd, 2008 3:50

Ok i’ve tracked down the issue i was having and it appears to be related to my password. My password contains special characters like +,!,= and is 10 characters long and my user name contains a “.” could these be causing an issue? I tried my wifes account and it works flawlessly. Help!

  60. filipp.dunsky on May 22nd, 2008 4:21

My password contains special characters like +,!,= and is 10 characters long and my user name contains a “.” too and 0.4.0 doesn`t sync looks like Argg is right…
    (rights are right - root:wheel)

  61. Daniele on May 22nd, 2008 17:03

I have found a bug in the counter of the feeds on a site. if i read an article go back, read another, go back, etc… the counter is negative.

    -23 feeds now :-D

  62. Christian on May 22nd, 2008 20:12

First of all i want to say thank you, you are doing a great application.

I noticed that “feeds” now -saves- more than 20 items in a feed, but it doesn’t Sync more than 20 items each time.

If i sync only once in a day i only get 20 items (per feed) at best.

It would be great if i could sync the last 100 items for each feed (including read AND unread), discarding the rest (old items previously saved in the database).

  63. Boris Bluntschli on May 22nd, 2008 21:48

@fillip, argg: It must have been the + in the password. Please check out 0.4.1 (on Installer.app now) and let me whether that fixes it.

  64. argg on May 23rd, 2008 1:26

.41 works for me! Thanks boris
