Feeds (Version 0.4.1)

¡Hola! / やあ / Ciao / 嘿

Since the last release, Feeds brushed up its language skills and now contains four additional translations. This means you can already enjoy Feeds in a total of seven languages. Many thanks go out to the translators, who are:

Antonio Soler (Spanish)
Kyosuke Takayama (Japanese)
Fabio Mosetti (Italian)
Jerry Lee (Traditional Chinese)
Jay Sun (Chinese)

I also fixed a few things here and there and added a simplistic ‘Star’ button, so you can easily keep track of those special entries that you want to read again on a bigger screen free of finger smudges. This is probably going to be the last update for the next few weeks though, as next week my endterms begin. Damnit, Chloe.

@filipp: That’s great (the translation I mean :) ) Check the about page on how to contact me, I hope we can also figure out why it’s not working for you.

Hi, i’ve been using feeds for 2 weeks, and i upgraded to 0.4.1 but i’ve got the same problem as Selbs, the page is in asian caraters…
I still can, read my news but, it seems to be an issue.

  12. Francois VDC on May 27th, 2008 19:21

I reply to myself: i changed the asian font to chinese and it solved my problem.
    (In parameters/general/International/Asian font)

    Tks a lot anyway

Excellent app, good update! One request, and I’m sure you’ve heard it before: A share/send-to link.

A send-to option alone would eliminate the need for any other RSS reader. It’s a rather important feature for myself, and likely others. I tend to email important links to myself for later viewing.

Even an ‘open in safari’ link would do, although far less elegantly.

I have to say; with each new feature update, Feeds is becoming a must-have app for the iPhone!

    Thank you,
    -Michael.

  14. Patrick on May 30th, 2008 23:34

@Francois thanks, I also changed the asian font from Japanese to chinese and it solved the problem.
( I wonder why we are only 2 to have that kind of problem)

I’m using the 0.4.1 for 2 weeks and it’s great, just need the images in the feeds and it will be perfect ;-)

  15. flashboy on May 31st, 2008 6:09

It would be better if has ‘keep feeds for x day’ and sync auto features.

  16. JIM on June 1st, 2008 10:06

something wrong with my feeds - application works very slow =(
    ver - 4.1

  17. Robert LLups on June 2nd, 2008 12:04

    Hi,
    I have an issue.

If the iPhone’s language is unsupported application language, Feeds revert to Japanese as default.

I have to setup my iPhone in english for Feeds in english.

Maybee, English would be default language…

    Anyway, Good Works

  18. Alexandre on June 3rd, 2008 3:18

@selbs: in my iPhone (also in Portuguese) I changed the “asian font” to Chinese and it worked!

  19. Svensson on June 3rd, 2008 11:24

I also had the problem with the Asian characters. My Iphone is in Swedish. Problem solved with changing the “asian font” as well. Thanks!

Amazing software, thanks so much !

  21. Jofi on June 4th, 2008 17:30

FYI: Google just released “Google Reader for iPhone” (beta):

    http://www.google.com/reader/i/

  22. Christian on June 4th, 2008 18:28

Jofi: You have to be online to use the “official” google reader for iphone.

There are countries where gprs/edge data rates are extremely expensive.

A program like this is great because you can sync your feeds at the office, at home or on a public hotspot and forget about paying 6 us dlls per megabyte.

  23. Mark on June 5th, 2008 11:42

Fantastic. It would be great if it could download images for offline viewing too. That’s why I’m using it, download RSS at home for reading on the tram. No WiFi on my tram I’m afraid :(

  24. Jofi on June 5th, 2008 16:54

Christian: That’s true, I had forgotten that some users may have international or unlocked iPhones that don’t have unlimited data usage.

Anyways, for the record, I do use Feeds as well. :) The Google Reader when I have wi-fi access, and Feeds when I know I won’t.

  25. Col on June 6th, 2008 15:21

Feeds definitely needs a “only sync x days/items” per feed, as I’ve noticed the app gets progressively slower as the number of unread items increases.

(I’ve got about 140 feeds, with about 6,700 unread items, taking around 30 mins to sync!)

  26. socksiong on June 12th, 2008 2:39

How do I use the star button? I starred 1 of my feed’s article but I can’t find anyway to read it afterwards.

  27. davide on June 16th, 2008 12:48

hi im from italy. i’ve installed on my itouch your feeds 0.4.2 version from repository.
after 3 or 4 days that it works perfecly now i can’t sync anytingh…why?can u respond here or by mail? thx

  28. RYan on June 29th, 2008 20:05

Any plans for an SDK version of Feeds?

  29. Mike_Smythe on July 1st, 2008 1:02

I agree with Col - Feeds takes a lot time sync’ing. A selective sync or a feed-by-feed sync would be ideal. I’ll donate $20 if we can selectively sync. There must be many of us willing to do so as well.

BTW, are you going to offer Feeds thru the Iphone App Store?

If not, I’ll donate another $40 if you can rig Feeds to save images. Anyone else with me ??? - let’s help Boris out!

  30. Boris Bluntschli on July 1st, 2008 23:09

@RYan: I’ve been developing Feeds under Ubuntu and don’t have access to a Mac, so unfortunately there will be no version of Feeds using the official SDK. There’s still the chance that Google themselves will release something similiar through the AppStore.

@Mike_Smythe: More advanced syncing (including image synchronization) is something I had planned for quite some time now, but due to lack of time I didn’t get down to working on it at all. It’s possible that I still manage to add this at some point :)

  31. Daniele on July 2nd, 2008 9:24

    i notice a bug.
Select a Feed from a site…open it and scroll down the page for read all the news of the site.
Back to the list of feeds, open another and the position of the page with the list of the news isn’t on top but have the position of the last feeds open.

btw is a great piece of software! ;)

  32. Geoffrey on July 2nd, 2008 21:44

Big fan of feeds, though a couple of requests:

    1. The initial view when launching the app really should be the list of feeds, not sure why I need to see the “only unread items” page first.

    2. Any change to open selected links in the feeds in Safari (ie externally). Quite a lot I will read a post that links somewhere else, and I prefer to read physical web pages in landscape, not horizontal view.

Otherwise, the best RSS reader on the iphone hands down. Happy to donate!
